Match Preview: Saracens v Exeter Chiefs

Saracens return to Allianz Park for the first time in 2017 when they face Exeter Chiefs on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides come into the game in top form and fans will be expecting an intriguing contest between second placed Sarries and third placed Exeter Chiefs.

The Opposition

Exeter come into the game in good form, with one solitary defeat in their last eight games and two important wins against Bath and Leicester in their last two Aviva Premiership outings. The Chiefs also have one of the best away records in the league having picked up 20 points from their six outings on the road so far. Only Saracens have matched that record.

Last Time Out

The two sides have met already this season with Saracens coming up trumps in their round two clash at Sandy Park. On the day Saracens scored five tries to record a 34-13 win over the Chiefs with Alex Lozowski, Sean Maitland (2), Jackson Wray and Ben Spencer all crossing the whitewash. It was perhaps the Saracens defensive effort though that secured the win, with the North Londoners putting in a clinical performance to restrict the home side in attack.

One To Watch

Injury has heavily restricted Jack Nowell’s involvement for Exeter so far this season but the England winger is now fit again and back in action for his club. After returning to action in early December Nowell will be looking to hit the ground running in the New Year as he tries to recapture his impressive pre-injury form which saw him score eight tries in 13 appearances during the 15/16 campaign. Man of the match in Exeter’s come back win over Bath, Nowell will be a key player for the Chiefs this weekend.

We Said

"Its going to be a very very tough challenge for us. If you look at their [Exeter’s] season as a whole they started slightly slowly…but since then they’ve been absolutely flying and we are certainly expecting a real battle at the weekend" – Kelly Brown
