McCall shortlisted for Premiership award
Saracens’ Director of Rugby Mark McCall has been nominated for the Ricoh Director of Rugby of the Season Award at the Premiership Rugby Awards 2017, an accolade he has already received a record three times.
McCall is shortlisted alongside Exeter’s Rob Baxter and Wasps’ Dai Young, with the Chiefs man having also won the award back in the 2011/12 season.
Wasps, Exeter and Sarries have all been vying for the top spot in this season’s competition, and all three Directors of Rugby have masterminded some memorable wins throughout the 2016/17 season. Phil Winstanley, the Rugby Director at Premiership Rugby commented that: "the standard of competition in Aviva Premiership Rugby continues to grow and this largely down to the quality of our Directors of Rugby’"and noted the final decision would be "extremely difficult."
The club are also up for another award at tomorrow’s ceremony, with Chris Ashton being nominated for the Aviva Community Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season Michael Rhodes shortlisted for Premiership Player of the Season.
A panel of individuals from various sports media outlets were joined by Premiership Rugby’s Communications Director Paul Morgan to comprise the shortlist and then decide the eventual winner. That winner will be announced at tomorrow’s Premiership Rugby Awards, held at the London Lancaster Hotel, and attended by representatives from across the Premiership Rugby community.
