Mean Machine Curtain Raiser
“Mean Machine Game” curtain raiser is set to celebrate the Saracens Get Onside Programme.
This weekend – officers and staff from Feltham Young Offenders Institute (Screws) will play the annual “Mean Machine” curtain raiser against previous participants of the Get Onside programme (ex-offenders) and Saracens staff.
The game is a celebration of the award winning ‘Get Onside’ Programme and the relationship between Saracens and Feltham YOI.
The Get Onside Programme is a personal and social development programme working with young offenders in Feltham. Participants spend 8 weeks taking part in regular rugby training and classroom sessions focussed on life and employability skills all based around the four core values of Saracens – Honesty, Work-Rate, Humility and Discipline.
The programme boasts impressive results. The re-offending rate for those who completed the course is currently at 10% - compared to the national average of 69% - this success comes not only from a challenging and varied programme but also from the ‘through the gate’ support that participants receive on release.
“The Get Onside Course changes the way you think about life and the way you will act when you get out.” Daniel, Get Onside Participant
