Tenacious Resolution Impala Saracens beat Mwamba 40-33
Tenacious Resolution Impala Saracens beat Mwamba 40-33.
Impala started the game strongly, Mohammed Omollo booting over a penalty in the fifth minute. Mwamba scrum-half George Mutuku would have drawn the sides level shortly after but his attempt flew wide. Mwamba did get on the score sheet with 12 minutes played as Collins Injera’s hard hit on an approaching Seje Owade disoriented the Impala defence allowing Mwamba number 8 Edwin Machanje to claim an easy score. Mutuku converted to give Mwamba a 7-3 lead.
A penalty from Omollo with 20 minutes played cut Mwamba's lead to just a point before a wonderful exchange of swift passes within the Impala backline rendered the Mwamba defence helpless and allowed Samson Onsomu to cut through the defence to score. Mohammed Omollo’s sure boot converted to make it Impala 13, Mwamba 7.
A second try for Impala came just before half time when Omollo linked up with Leon Adongo to score and a third came on the stroke of half time when Collins Injera failed to gather full back Robin Kiplang'at's deep kick and the bounce allowed the fullback to offload to Leon Adongo who slid over the try line. Omollo converted to close the half with Impala leading 25-7.
After the break Derrick Mayar’s spirited run over the line would light up a section of the Impala club while Omollo’s conversion ensured a 32-7 Impala lead with 43 minutes played.
Indiscipline then began to creep into Impala's game with flanker Joel Omer yellow carded in the 53rd minute and Tyson Okoth also sent to the bin five minutes later for kicking the ball from the ruck.
Mwamba took advantage of the 15 vs 13 set up and scored through Pablo Machanje just before the hour mark. Mutuku converted to bring scores to Mwamba 14-32 Impala.
Prop Anthony Orege also found himself on the wrong side of the referee, sending Impala down to 12 men and giving Collins Injera a chance to score. Mutuku failed to convert but Injera was soon in again, spriting more than 40 metres to dot down under the posts. This time Mutuku converted, sending the scores to Mwamba 26, Impala 36.
Mohammed Omollo booted over penalty on the 69th minute, slightly stretching Impala's lead but Mwamba’s Billy Odhiambo scored a converted try with five minutes to play to bring the visitors back into the game. Impala prop put the final nail in the coffin however, scoring a try of his own on thr 78th minute to give Impala a 40-33 victory.
