Timisoara Saracens looking forward to Allianz Park experience ahead of pre-season match up

After successful preseason outings in Bermuda and Bedford Saracens will take to the Allianz Park pitch for the first time this season on Friday evening as they face Global Network side Timisoara Saracens.

Since joining the Global Network in 2014 Timisoara have gone from strength to strength, securing a domestic triple in 2015, back to back league titles and competing in the 2016/17 Challenge Cup. Head coach Matt Williams believes though that there is plenty for his side to improve upon as they prepare to face the European Champions.

“We need to play great clubs, such as Saracens, to grow in our knowledge and experience of tactics, technique and fitness” he said.

“I am sure the experience will help Timisoara Saracens grow, mature and develop as both rugby players and men. After all, that is what rugby is all about.”

One of the stars of Timisoara who will be taking to the field on Friday is lock forward Valentin Poparlan. Observant Sarries fans may recognise the Romanian international from his previous appearance at Allianz Park; he lined up for the Men in Black when Saracens faced the Blue Bulls in North London back in 2015.

“I have some great memories from the first time I played at Allianz Park in 2015” Poparlan said.

“I was extremely honored to be part of the Saracens squad back then and I was extremely impressed with the warmth with which I was welcomed by both the Saracens team and staff, as well as by the supporters. Allianz Park always gathers a great crowd and I am looking forward to re-living the superb atmosphere this Friday.”

“It will be a great opportunity for us to assess our shape and technical level ahead of our 2017/18 season when our main aim will be being one of the two EPCR Continental Shield teams to secure a place for the 2018/19 Challenge Cup and last, but not least, maintaining our Romania SuperLiga champions title.”

Tickets for Friday’s game, which kicks off at 19H30, are currently available via www.saracens.com/tickets.
