SARACENS mavericks pathway

SARACENS MAVERICKS IS ONE OF THE BEST NETBALL CLUBS IN THE COUNTRY, COMPETING IN THE UK'S ELITE COMPETITION - THE NETBALL SUPERLEAGUE.

Operating within the East Region we deliver netball programmes at grassroots through to performance for a variety of ages and abilities.

Our performance pathway consists of the England Netball Accredited Academies (Under 21,19,17,15s and Player Development Programme) and underpinning those are our U21s & Futures Programmes.

We have over 30 coaches and team managers who deliver on the  pathway throughout the season.

PATHWAY VISION

“We are excited to start our trial process for our pathway for the 2023/24 season. Each year the talent across the Saracens Mavericks landscape is amazing and this forthcoming season we expect to see nothing less. Whether players are coming in at the beginning of their performance pathway journey or this is their 6th or 7th season with us, we want all to feel a part of the Sarries family. So much work is happening behind the scenes and on and off the court we want to be extremely competitive throughout the pathway and our Academies” Sachel Grant, Franchise Performance Lead

PATHWAY FAQs

I HAVE MISSED THE DEADLINE FOR SCREENING WHAT DO I DO?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept any late applications. Our application process is open for at least 4 weeks. If you have missed the deadline, we would encourage you to contact your local County Programme for any opportunities they may have should you be Under 15.

IS IT AN OPEN TRIAL?

Yes, anyone can apply, you do not need a nomination from your county or club coach.

WHAT PROGRAMME SHOULD I TRIAL FOR?

All players who wish to be considered for Under 17 Academy and Futures U18 must attend trials in July. We will select from there any players who we wish to progress to the final Under 17 trials in September. Players already in our U15 Academy or U17 Academy will be invited to attend in September only.

If you were in our Futures U18 / U15 programmes previously and you are still eligible you will still need to attend trials in July.

If you are in Year 8 or 9 from 1st September 2023 you must attend trials for our Futures Under 15 only.

You cannot trial for both Futures U15 and Futures U18.

To be considered for the PDP programme you will have had to attended Under 17/19 Academy trials.

WHEN ARE UNDER 15S ACADEMY TRIALS?

We will be having trials for our Under 15 Academy on 6th January 2024. To be considered for our U15 Academy you must be part of a County Player Development Programme (Bedford, Cambridge, East Essex, Essex Thurrock, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk). Second stage trials will be in June 2024 and players can be part of any County Player Development Programme as well as from any Franchise Player Development Programme and U17 Academy at that time.

IS IT SKILLS OR MATCH PLAY AT TRIALS?

Trials will consist of game sense activities and skills as well as match play.

WHAT TIME DO WE ARRIVE?

Once the closing date has passed you will receive an additional email and we will advise you of your time slot. We cannot take requests of that time you want to trial and who you wish to trial with; therefore, we suggest that you ensure that you are available the whole day until you receive notification.

Please arrive at approximately 15 minutes before the start of the screening / trials. This will allow time to register and to be netball ready (hair, nails, strapping etc.)

WHAT DO WE WEAR?

Please do not wear any club or franchise kit – please wear a plain white top if your first-choice position is GS or GA, coloured top if your first-choice position is WA, C or WD or a black top if your first choice is GD or GK - with dark coloured shorts / skirt or leggings.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING WITH US?

You will need a ball, towel, plenty fluid and recovery food and hand sanitiser.

ARE PARENTS ALLOWED TO WATCH?

Hertfordshire Sports Village has a balcony area where parents are free to watch. Only players and trial staff will be allowed courtside. No photography or filming is permitted under any circumstances.

DO I NEED TO APPLY IF I AM INJURED?

Yes, you will need to complete a trial form, so you can be considered for the pathway once you have completed your return to play.

I CANNOT MAKE THE SCREENING OR TRIAL DATE ADVERTISED, WHAT CAN I DO?

You will still need to complete the screening form if you wish to be considered for the pathway and if there is still space in the programme you will be invited to 16th July or the first training session for the Futures programme. (Please email once you have applied – maverickspathway@saracens.net)

WHEN WILL I FIND OUR THE RESULTS?

DO I GET ANY FEEDBACK?

General feedback will be given after the first screening and more specific feedback after the final screening – both on request.
