Weekend Round Up | Sarries book ticket to last eight
The Men, Women and Mavericks were all in action over the weekend, with a mixed bag of results for the North Londoners.
Saracens Men
The Men in Black booked their place in the Quarter Final of the European Rugby Challenge Cup with a 40-33 win over Cardiff Rugby on Sunday afternoon.Â
It was a dramatic match at StoneX Stadium with both sides looking to make it through to the last eight, and thankfully for Sarries a rampant second half saw them progress.Â
Max Malins, who was the Tissot Man of the Match was in fine form as he scored one and set up two, whilst Sean Maitland crossed twice as well as Dom Morris and Aled Davies.
Sarries will now head to Kingsholm to face Gloucester in the last eight on the weekend of 6/7/8 May.Â
Saracens WomenÂ
Alex Austerberry’s side ended their Allianz Cup campaign with a 29-15 defeat to Gloucester-Hartpury on Saturday.Â
Catha Jacobs and Tilly Vaughan-Fowler both scored, but it wasn’t to be at the Alpas Arena as the hosts pulled away in the closing stages.Â
The result means that Sarries finished sixth in the cup, and will now turn their attention back to the Premier 15’s once their internationals return from the TikTok Six Nations.Â
Saracens MavericksÂ
The Mavericks had a double header this weekend in Birmingham, and they had to settle for one win and one defeat at Resorts World Arena.Â
They started with a dominant 58-44 win over Severn Stars, which featured a brilliant Player of the Match performance from Jodie Gibson from Goal Defence. The display included seven intercepts, five deflections and nine turnovers which got her some much deserved praise.Â
The second match saw them narrowly beaten by London Pulse, and they have a rest week ahead of them now before they face Bath on April 29th.Â
