Jacobs named in South Africa World Cup squad
Saracens Women are delighted to announce that second row Catha Jacobs has been named in the South African World Cup squad ahead of the tournament in New Zealand.
Jacobs arrived in North London in January, having played in England for the first time against the Barbarians at Twickenham.
She has made a big impact in a short amount of time at the StoneX, having recently re-signed for the 2022/23 season. After her season was sadly cut short by injury, Jacobs will be looking to make up for lost time once she returns from the World Cup.
South Africa will be captained in New Zealand by Nolusindiso Booi, with 28 of the 32 players selected making their World Cup debuts.
Speaking at the announcement of his squad, Head Coach Stanley Raubenheimer has been pleased with the experience and depth he has been able to build within his playing group.
“We wanted experience in the squad and depth in every position, and I am pleased to say we have achieved that,” said Raubenheimer. "We are going to New Zealand knowing that we have given ourselves the best chance possible. “I feel a sense of anticipation now, thinking back to where we started and how we have grown, and that we are now ready to take on the best teams in the world. We have our objectives and one of them is to not only make the country proud with our effort, but ourselves as well."
South Africa will face a sizeable task in New Zealand, with pool matches against tournament favourites England, as well as France and Fiji. However, with far more international experience in the squad compared to their last World Cup appearance, they will be looking to put in a strong showing.
