Two more Saracens Women are headed to the World Cup in New Zealand, with confirmation that Alysha Corrigan and Alex Ellis have both been named in the Canadian squad.

The Canadians are ranked third in the world and will take on North American rivals USA, as well as Italy & Japan in Pool B.

Head Coach Kevin Rouet’s 32-player squad will be captained by former Saracen Sophie de Goede. Whilst Rouet was pleased to finally confirm his squad, he insisted that the real work starts now, as they build up to their opening fixture against Japan.

“All of them have been so dedicated and put in so much hard work to get to this point. However, the real hard work starts now as we head to New Zealand with a desire and belief that we can compete for the Rugby World Cup trophy, the first in Canada’s history.”

Canada head to the World Cup in good form, having secured back-to-back warm-up victories over Italy and Wales and, having fifth at the 2017 tournament, they will be determined to reach the semi-finals this time around.

Wing Corrigan impressed again as part of Alex Austerberry’s title winning squad last season, scoring against Exeter Chiefs in the final. That score was also voted as the team’s try of the season. Since arriving in North London, Corrigan has scored 8 tries for the club, with her eye for the try line proving to be a crucial weapon for her side.

Also joining Corrigan in the squad is prop Alex Ellis. She made her debut for Saracens back in 2019 and has since gone on to make 21 appearances for the club. Ellis came off the bench in the Premier 15s final against the Chiefs and her presence upfront will only be a positive, both for her country and her club again this season.
