Rocky News Post

Former England international Rochelle ‘Rocky’ Clark will join the Saracens Women coaching team ahead of the 2019/20 Tyrrells Premier 15s season.

Clark will come in as Forwards and Skills Coach and will work with players across both the TP15s and the Development League.

Along with her role with the Women’s team, Clark will also head up the DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) programme at our educational partner Oaklands College.

Rocky Clark is an England legend with the prop forward winning the World Cup in 2014 and playing in the 2006, 2010 and 2017 editions of the tournament.

Clark was awarded an MBE in 2015 and announced her retirement from international rugby in 2018. In doing so she finished on 137 caps, making her the most capped England international, male or female, to date.

"I can't wait to work with the players and the coaching team"

Clark said:

“I really enjoyed my time at Wasps, and I want to thank them for all their support.

“However, it’s time for a new chapter in my rugby career and the opportunity to coach at Saracens Women and work on the DiSE programme at Oaklands College was too good to pass up.

“The Saracens squad is full of quality players and the chance to maximise the potential within this squad is hugely exciting, especially in a league that is getting stronger every year.

"I can't wait to work with the players and the coaching team as we look to continue the run of success that the club has enjoyed over the last 30 years ago."

Speaking on the appointment, Saracens Women Head Coach Alex Austerberry said:

“Having Rocky join the coaching team is a great addition to the club. Her playing career is unrivalled and although it is a term often overused, she truly is a legend of the game.

“Her playing experiences twinned with her coaching experience and ‘coaching eye’ truly make her an outstanding coach. To have her experience and quality supporting the development of all the players at the club is something truly unique.

“We have a very talented and young group of Front Row forwards at the club, and to have Rocky providing technical and tactical input to them will prove to be immensely impactful on their development.

“However, Rocky will work across all areas of the game and I have no doubt that her insight and ideas will challenge the players and will certainly drive the entire group to be better. It is certainly a very exciting addition to the Saracens family.”
