Weekend Round Up | Women surge in to semi final
It has been a busy time for all of the Saracens teams as we head towards the business end of the season with plenty of silverware up for grabs.
Saracens Men:
Unfortunately our run in the European Rugby Challenge Cup came to an end on Saturday night as we were beaten by a Toulon side who were cheered on by one of the all-time great atmospheres at a rugby match.
Ben Earl’s early try looked to have given us the ascendancy but some magic from Gabin Villiere and Jiuta Naqoli Wainiqolo ensured it will be Toulon who progress to the final in Marseille.
There is still so much to play for though and it the focus returns to the Premiership this weekend.
We host Northampton Saints in our next home match on Saturday in a fixture which could have huge ramifications for the remainder of the 2021/22 season. Sarries will head in to the game knowing that a win will secure them a home semi-final in the Gallagher Premiership, whilst Northampton, who are currently fourth desperately need a win to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Saracens Women:
For the Women, they head in to the semi-finals in style after a remarkable victory on Saturday against Wasps in the final match of the regular season.
They trailed 26-7 with less than 30 minutes to play, but then an incredible spell of four tries in quick succession, ending with Alev Kelter scoring in the 78th minute completed the comeback and secured an amazing 31-26 win.
That win means they will host Harlequins on Sunday, meaning we have a double header at StoneX ahead of us this weekend. Ticket sales are already going well for the London Derby which has been the final for the last three seasons, so please join us for what should be a memorable occasion!
Saracens Mavericks:
The Mavericks are also picking up some form and are very much in the equation for a play-off spot. They beat Surrey Storm at the weekend to move joint fourth with nine wins from their 18 matches so far, and if they can continue to pick up wins they could quality for the play-offs which would signal huge progression for them.
Exciting times ahead, there could be plenty of reasons to celebrate over the coming weeks across all of our teams!
