Packer: "Winning means everything to us!"
Marlie Packer has had a sensational season so far, and fresh from her Six Nations Player of the Tournament Nomination she now has her sights set on silverware with Saracens.
The back-rower, who has taken on more leadership responsibilities at StoneX Stadium this year has been on top of her game and after scoring in the semi-final she wants to get her hands on the Premier 15s trophy once again at Sixways on Friday 3rd June.
“The semi-final was amazing. That wins means everything to this team. It was the best we’ve played all season and what is fantastic is how the whole club has got behind us. StoneX was rocking!” Said the 2014 World Cup winner.
She continued: “We know what it’s like to lose to them (Quins) so the whole squad really pulled together. We will all work hard now to ensure we go out and put in a performance like that in the final.”
The 32-year-old, who now has 74 caps for her country has been in the form of her life recently, and admitted that the league is now much more challenging with more teams putting pressure on at the business end of the season.
“Every game in this league is really competitive. You have to turn up and put a proper performance in. I guess because of that maybe I get a bit more nervous but I feel like that’s when I play some of my best rugby.”
Packer has played all across the back-row for Alex Austerberry’s side this year and is happy to fit in anywhere required to help the team succeed.
“I get my hands on the ball a bit more when I’m at eight which I’ve been doing recently but it’s all about the pack doing their job as a unit. I love what I do and as soon as I get over that line I switch!”
Packer’s place in the Saracens history books is already assured, but if she can help the Women in Black to another Premier 15’s title on 3rd June it will only elevate her further!
