Fleeto retirement

Saracens and England legend Vicky Fleetwood has today announced her retirement from the game.

Fleetwood retires, having made 65 appearances for the club she joined in 2014. During that time, she has enjoyed numerous successes, including securing four league titles. Fleetwood also scored in the final last season against Exeter in Worcester, as her side put in a commanding display to regain the Premier15s title.

One of the World Cup winning squad of 2014, Fleetwood made 82 appearances for her country, in a distinguished international career that saw her win five Six Nations titles, four Grand Slams and a bronze medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games 7s.

Fleetwood's final appearance in a Saracens shirt came against Sale Sharks in the Allianz Cup, where she scored two tries in an impressive victory.

Speaking after the announcement of the decision to call time on her career, Fleetwood highlighted the memories and friends that she has made throughout her time on the rugby field.

"My rugby career has been an incredible journey and has given me memories that will last forever. Being part of the Red Roses is something special and I’m proud that I got to wear the white shirt on so many occasions, as well as the black and red of Saracens. Rugby has given me so much to be thankful for, and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. Although it’s time to step away from playing, I will continue to stay in the game through my coaching- something which I’m very passionate about."

Saracens Director of Rugby Alex Austerberry also paid tribute to the back row, who has been such a crucial part of Saracens' success on and off the field.

"Fleeto has been an outstanding servant to English rugby. What she has achieved for both Saracens and England is outstanding. She's a great person and a great character. She's been at the top of her game for over a decade and has excelled at both forms of the game. I want to thank her for her dedication and service to the game. She epitomises everything it means to be a Saracen and it's been a privilege to work with her. I want to wish her all the best in what comes next.
