Mavericks Netball Building Nicely says head coach Buchanan
Mavericks Head Coach Camilla Buchanan felt that her side had taken a big step forward, as they rounded off their pre-season campaign with victory in a behind closed doors friendly against London Pulse.
It’s been all change for the Mavericks this season, with five new players, a new coaching unit and a new structure to implement on the court.
Reflecting on the entertaining victory, Buchanan felt that her players had secured a result that their efforts throughout pre-season deserved.
“It was very pleasing. The players really rewarded themselves for the work they have been putting in throughout pre-season. I said before the match that it wasn’t about the result, but we’re competitive animals at the end of the day.”
A feature of the match was the attacking fluidity which the Mavericks displayed throughout, with Britney Clarke and Ellie Kelk demonstrating sharp shooting in the attacking third.
After the match, Buchanan was delighted after seeing her side really start to thrive with their new style of play.
“I was most pleased with how they stuck at it and really started to believe in the new way of playing that we are trying to implement. I’m very excited with where we are going, and the bonus is the result.”
Whilst victories hadn’t been coming the Mavericks’ way before the match against Pulse, Buchanan explained that the focus has always been on performance and implementing new structures, as her side continue to build into the season opener against Severn Stars.
“I have said to the group to believe in what we are doing, and the results will come. It’s always a long pre-season and the group have put in a massive shift. The effort has been fantastic, and I’m really pleased with what we’re building.”
