SARACENS LAUNCHES NEW EQUALITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION POLICY
To continue our Pride Month 2022 celebrations, today Saracens launches our new Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy.
To mark the occasion, our CEO Lucy Wray would like to share a few words:
“People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
This has become a bit of a mantra for me as, over the years, I have started to really understand what genuinely caring for people can do in terms of loyalty and the relentless pursuit of excellence together as one team. There can be no greater achievement in life than having a positive impact on other people’s lives. I firmly believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally, be heard and accepted into the Sarries family and loved as an individual. Obviously, inequality exists all around us but if we can all be aware, educate ourselves and others and try to do something about it then we will be in a better place.
As well as setting out our new Saracens EDI Policy today, we have also established a Saracens EDI Working Group with representation from across the Saracens Group and teams. This group will initially be focussed on:
- Education for employees and players – we are pleased to confirm that former Saracens Captain Floyd Steadman will be delivering a session to all staff on Unconscious Bias in the weeks ahead
- Education for coaches and managers around recognising people’s backgrounds and upbringings and how this might affect their approach towards their development
- Mentoring programme – people who you can go and talk to in confidence and feel comfortable that there will be no repercussions
- Transition from the academy and pathway programmes into the senior squads - ensuring young players are comfortable in that environment to perform to the best of their ability
- Transition from rugby or netball into a new career at the end of your sporting career – this is a massive player welfare issue and something Saracens have always wanted to lead the way on
Of course, we will be pushing ahead with further growing our socio, economic and environmental impact too, working very closely with our incredible Saracens Foundation and Saracens High School to support young people who are not receiving the same opportunities in life as others.
All the very best,
Lucy
