Weekend Round Up | Sarries keep up pressure in Premiership
Saracens Men took another stride towards the end of season play-offs on Friday, whilst there was a postponement for the Women but their international representatives shone in Italy.Â
Saracens Men:
Mark McCall’s side were at their clinical best against Sale Sharks on Friday evening as they registered a vital 18-12 win at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Sale started strongly and had a 6-0 lead in the first half, but Ben Earl scored twice as the North Londoners came from behind to stay second in the Gallagher Premiership.Â
His first try was off the back of a lineout maul, whilst the second was a thunderous finish after Max Malins’ break had created space out wide.Â
Sarries now turn their attention to the European Rugby Challenge Cup, with their final group match away against Brive on Friday night.Â
Saracens Women:
The Allianz Cup match against Exeter Chiefs was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and the RFU will meet to determine the result which will have an impact on qualification to the next round.Â
We will confirm on our channels as soon as we have been informed of the outcome.Â
Saracens Mavericks:
The Mavericks secured a dominant victory on Monday night to get their campaign well and truly back on track. Razia Quashie was the Sky Netball Player of the Match in the 62-43 win over Wasps, and they will be hoping that win can kickstart their season as they look to move up the Super League table.
Internationals:Â
The TikTok Six Nations continued at the weekend as there was a huge Saracens impact across two of the matches.Â
Poppy Cleall captained England in their 74-0 win over Italy which made it two wins from two. Sarah McKenna scored twice and Vicky Fleetwood also scored. Zoe Harrison kicked three conversions, whilst Holly Aitchison and Marlie Packer were also involved.Â
Donna Rose came off the bench in Wales’ narrow 24-19 win over Scotland, and Jodie Rettie was involved for the Scots at the Cardiff Arms Park.Â
Kelsey Clifford and Cece Gordon-Hill both played for England Under 20’s against France in Henley, and they will be looking to use this platform as a chance to elevate themselves in to the senior squad.Â
