PLAYER BIO
Alec Clarey
Alec Clarey is an experienced tighthead prop who joined Saracens from Jersey Reds in 2020 and has become an established member of the club’s front row. Known for his powerful scrummaging and physical presence, he has played an important role in Saracens’ success across domestic and European competitions.
Originally from the North East of England, Clarey developed his game at Hartpury College, where he helped the senior side achieve promotion to National League One and won the BUCS Championship in 2014. His performances attracted the attention of Bristol Bears, where he spent time within their academy system before moving to Jersey Reds in 2017.
During three seasons with Jersey, Clarey established himself as one of the Championship’s leading tighthead props, helping the club secure its highest-ever league finish at the time. His consistent performances earned him a move to Saracens ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Clarey made an immediate impact in North London, featuring in Saracens’ European Champions Cup quarter-final victory over Leinster shortly after arriving. He subsequently played a part in the club’s Championship-winning campaign in 2021, helping Saracens secure promotion back to the Premiership.
Since then, Clarey has continued to contribute to Saracens’ forward pack, featuring in Premiership and European competition and helping the club win the 2023 Premiership title. His experience and scrummaging ability have made him a valued member of the squad.
In May 2026, Clarey signed a new contract to remain at Saracens for the 2026/27 season, entering his seventh year with the club. A former England Students representative, he continues to bring experience, dedication and strength to the Saracens front row.
